Bill Admits To Sleeping With Peggy And Hank Dismisses It
Late in the series, Bill actually admits to sleeping with Peggy. In the episode titled “Hank’s On Board
,” the gang find themselves in a pretty sticky situation. They’re stranded at sea and worried that they won’t survive, so in a moment of panic, they all start revealing their deepest, darkest secrets.
After everyone spills their beans, Bill is the last to “get something off his chest.” He says, “I have a confession, too, Hank. In a moment of weakness, on a dark rainy night, I slept with Peggy.” Hank simply writes it off and says, “No, you didn’t, Bill,” and that was the end of it. Some fans believe this is another example of everyone ignoring what they already know.
Bobby Has An Obvious Physical Likeness To Bill And Dissimilarity To Hank
Bobby and Bill look exactly alike. They’re both overweight, they’re both short, and they both have huge appetites. Bobby and Hank have almost nothing in common, and although Bobby does eventually start taking interest in things like hunting and grilling, his physical attributes look nothing like Hank’s.
Bill Passes On The Dauterive Family Recipe To Bobby To Keep The Family Tradition Alive
In the episode “Blood and Sauce
,” Bill becomes depressed after learning that Dale is passing his legacy onto young Joseph because Bill has no one like that. Sparked by a confrontation with Hank about how he doesn’t like grilling, Bobby offers to help Bill prepare his secret family recipe for a cookout.
After getting in an argument with his brother about preserving the family name, Bill decides to teach Bobby how to make his secret family recipe “so that his family name will be remembered.”
The Parallel Between The Hills And The Redcorns Is The Creator’s Joke On The Audience
A user on the King of the Hill Wikia
suggested a theory that the show creators have been in on the joke the whole time, and that they’ve been using the relationship between Dale, Joseph, and John Redcorn as a joke. The fans “are meant to laugh at Dale’s cluelessness, but miss a similar situation themselves.”
Peggy Resents Bill
If Bill is Bobby’s father, it would have caused a lot of stress between him and Peggy. Obviously, Bill still pines for her, but Peggy is disgusted and irritated with Bill at nearly every opportunity, which is kind of odd considering what a nice guy he is. Reddit user Zdog1111
thinks Peggy “would see it as a really bad part in her past life and take it out on him.”
Bill Has A Recurring Crush On Peggy
Bill’s interest in Peggy is built into his character description
. “Bill has an obsessive crush on Peggy, and frequently makes bumbling, inappropriate remarks about her. Although Bill always speaks highly of Peggy and looks to her as the epitome of desire.” Countless episodes feature Bill pining for Peggy, so much so that Hank isn’t even bothered by it anymore.
Bill And Bobby Are Always Bonding
Bill and Bobby have a unique relationship. Bill always wanted kids, but “never had any” before his divorce, and is too much of a CHUD
to find a new wife. All throughout the series, fans see little snippets of Bill and Bobby becoming pals and bonding.
For example, take the episode called “It Came From The Garage
,” where Bill helps Bobby in a boat-building competition because Hank is afraid of a bat living in the garage.
Peggy Admits That She Slept With Someone Other Than Hank
In the episode titled, “Luanne Virgin 2.0,” Peggy reveals (under some pretty aggressive circumstances) that she slept with someone other than Hank. She writes it off as a quick fling with “her very best male friend, Wayne Trotter.” She claims that Wayne was actually gay and nothing further happened between the two.
However, some fans
believe that this explanation is a lie and that Peggy was simply trying to cover up the truth.
Bill Is Bobby’s Dad, But Cotton Is Still His Grandfather
Reddit user skaloop
has a hunch that Cotton is actually Bill’s father, although they keep it secret on the show. This would make Hank and Bill half-brothers, and explain why Bobby looks so much like both Bill and a young Cotton. This could also explain why Cotton seems to favor Bill over Hank.
Bill Isn’t Mentally Capable Of Being A Father
Dale discovers that during his time in the army, Bill was subject to an experimental procedure known as Operation: Infinite Walrus
. The project was designed to create a hybrid super-soldier. While Dale believes that this drug caused Bill to gain weight and start growing more body hair, it is revealed that Bill was merely given a placebo.
But what if Bill wasn’t
given a placebo, and the government simply didn’t want to pay the medical expenses associated with botching a soldier’s brain? Bill routinely displays behaviors found in those with excessively low IQs. What if Peggy, concerned that Bill lacked the mental capacity to be a father, convinced Bill to let Hank raise the boy instead?
Hank Is Autistic And Everyone Is Trying To Protect Him
Look, there’s no arguing that Hank Hill is a unique individual – he’s got a lot of serious quirks. One fan
thinks those quirks might be a manifestation of severe high-functioning autism. Think about it: he’s obsessed
with propane, he’s emotionally distant, he’s very uncomfortable discussing sex, and he rarely expresses emotion.
If Hank is living with autism, maybe the rest of Arlen knows he’s not Bobby’s father, but keeps it a secret because they know he couldn’t handle it.
Hank Is A Closeted Homosexual
There’s actually a ton
surrounding the idea that Hank Hill is secretly gay, not to mention a whole boatload of fanfic and Rule 34 posts… Here is Redditor RoseWolfie
‘s take on the subject:
“Hank is a closet homosexual. Growing up with his manly man father and [surrounded by] Christian beliefs caused him to suppress that side of himself. He did it so much he would reject anything he considered flamboyant, like feelings and stage performances. He married Peggy, mainly cause of her acceptance of him, but subconsciously because she is the closest he will ever come to a male on his own. Her large feet, male structure, and boyish personality made it easy to accept her as his life partner. As well, it took the pressure off of him to find a mate. He still rarely touches her, only when sexual need reaches a point. Most likely he never reaches a full orgasm.”
